- Students enrolled in Professional and Graduate Programs will be assigned an Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee is a working group of IPB faculty members appointed by the Dean of the Faculty/School to guide and mentor students in planning their coursework, research, and thesis/dissertation writing.
- The Advisory Committee Decree (SK Pembimbing) is an official decision issued by the Faculty/School, outlining the composition of the Advisory Committee. The appointment of the Advisory Committee is made by the Dean of the Faculty/School based on the recommendation of the Head of the Study Program.
- The Advisory Committee consists of a Chairperson and 1–2 members for Master’s Programs and 2–3 members for Doctoral Programs. The Chairperson must be from the respective study program. If necessary, up to one external member may be included for Master’s Programs and up to two for Doctoral Programs. An additional committee member may be approved only for joint/double degree programs.
- The selection process for the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee is conducted in the first semester, and the Head of the Study Program must submit the proposal no later than one week before the end of the first semester.
- Each semester, the Advisory Committee is required to report on the progress of the students under their supervision to the Head of the Study Program.
- The requirements to serve on the Advisory Committee are as follows:
a. Head of the Advisory Committee must be a permanent faculty member at IPB who teaches in the respective study program and has prior experience as a member of an Advisory Committee.
b. Head of the Advisory Committee for a Master’s Program must hold a Doctorate (Ph.D.) and have a minimum academic rank of Assistant Professor (Lektor). Committee members must hold at least a Doctorate. Additionally, the Chairperson must have successfully supervised at least two Master’s students to completion.
c. Head of the Advisory Committee for a Doctoral Program should ideally hold the title of Professor or, at a minimum, a Doctorate (Ph.D.) with the academic rank of Associate Professor (Lektor Kepala). If the Chairperson is not a Professor, at least one committee member must hold the title of Professor. The Chairperson must have successfully supervised at least two Doctoral students to completion.
d. Committee Members may be appointed from institutions outside IPB if the required area of expertise is not available within IPB and if they meet the academic qualification of Doctorate (Ph.D.).
e. Faculty members with Nomor Induk Dosen Khusus (NIDK) status (Special Lecturer Identification Number) may serve as Chairperson of the Advisory Committee, provided they meet the criteria outlined in points f.b and f.c.
f. To ensure the quality of supervision, the number of students assigned to each faculty advisor is limited based on reasonable standards. The supervision quota is determined by considering the advisor’s role within the Advisory Committee and the students’ academic progress, in accordance with IPB’s Education Quality Standards.
Retired faculty members or Emeritus Professors may not serve as Chairperson of the Advisory Committee, but they may continue as committee members. If the Chairperson retires before their student completes the program, they will transition to a committee member, and one of the existing committee members—whose expertise is most relevant to the student’s research topic and who meets the Chairperson eligibility criteria—will be appointed as the new Chairperson.
